The Hero’s Journey

the hero’s journey

in the beginning the call comes soft

a whisper in the dark

a flutter in the chest

it builds gradually to crescendo

until ears and heart plead for action

and so the hero peels off his cloak of comforts

leaving behind the familiar

for the voyage into the unknown

the shadows are deep

the monsters are real

the journey is long

the heart is weary

in the labyrinth of trials

emerges the lessons

wrestling with demons

both in and out

the hero forged anew

in the fires of fears

the alchemy fuses

strength with pain

but it is the journey home

that proves the greatest challenge

for returning to the world once known

is forever altered

as the hero

is now

eternally transformed

never to be

the same.
